Whether you are seeking to advance your professional skills, deepen your artistic expertise, or prepare for new opportunities in leadership in higher education, ASOTA’s graduate programs provide a supportive environment for continued growth. Graduate students study with experienced faculty while pursuing advanced training that aligns with their career goals and calling.

Applying to ASOTA is a simple three-step process.

Complete the and submit any additional materials required for your area of study. Through the application, you will select your preferred audition or interview date and provide the materials needed for admission consideration.

Students are encouraged to complete their application and submit required materials as early as possible. All application materials must be received no later than two weeks prior to your selected audition or interview date.

Upcoming audition and interview dates, deadlines, and requirements can be found in Step 3 below.

Select your preferred audition or interview date when completing the Alabama School of the Arts Application. All application materials, including any required audition or interview materials, must be submitted no later than two weeks prior to your selected audition date.

M.A. in Musical Theatre

Prepare the following:

1. One Golden Age Musical Theatre Song
2. One Contemporary/Modern Musical Theatre Song
3. Two contrasting 1-minute monologues: from the following Theatrical styles: Classical Theatre (Shakespear etc.), Contemporary, Dramatic, and Comedic.

M.M. in Vocal Performance

Prepare six memorized selections representing the following:

4. 17th or 18th Century song or aria in Italian
5. Standard operatic aria
6. German art song
7. French art song
8. 20th or 21st century British or American Art song
9. Please select one piece representing your cognate area of interest:
鈥 Musical Theatre selection
鈥 Operatic aria
鈥 Art song

M.A. in Worship Leadership & Theology

MAWLT students are required to interview with the Chair of Worship Leadership. Please complete the graduate audition form to schedule your interview.

M.M. in Piano Performance

Prepare the following (memorized):
1. One piece from each of the following contrasting styles: Baroque, Classical Sonata (one movement), Romantic OR Contemporary
2. Sight-reading

D.M.A. in Vocal Performance

All DMA Applicants
In addition to completing an application, please submit the following:

Audition Day Itinerary

Meet ASOTA faculty and staff, learn about scholarships and student life, and hear what makes the Alabama School of the Arts unique.

10:00 AM | Auditions & Interviews

Students will complete their scheduled audition or interview with faculty in their selected area of study.

Detailed schedules and location information will be provided prior to your audition date.

Common Questions

How do I apply for a graduate assistantship?

Once accepted into ASOTA, students will receive information and an application form to apply for available graduate assistantship opportunities. No separate assistantship application is required prior to admission.

Is an accompanist provided?

An accompanist is provided free of charge for all on-campus voice auditions. Applicants must upload their accompanist music as part of their ASOTA application prior to their audition date. Rehearsal time with the accompanist will be provided on audition day.

What if the audition dates listed above don't work for me?

If none of the scheduled audition dates fit your availability, you are still encouraged to complete the Alabama School of the Arts Application. Simply select聽鈥淧rivate Audition鈥聽on your application, and an ASOTA representative will contact you to arrange an alternate audition date that works with your schedule.

We understand that travel, school, work, and other commitments can make attending a scheduled audition difficult, and we are happy to work with you whenever possible.
