Traditional Undergraduate Students
Once you聽complete the admissions process聽you are automatically considered for an academic scholarship award. In addition to academic merit awards, UM also offers a variety of talent-based scholarships. Our enrollment counselors can help guide you in applying for a variety of grants, loans and work-study programs that can help lower your out-of-pocket college payment.
Freshmen Academic Scholarships
PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIP AWARD (Unweighted GPA 3.50-4.00)
- $16,000 per year
- Based on academic achievement (see scholarship calculator)
- Automatic renewal if student maintains a cumulative GPA of 3.50 and enrolls in at least 12 hours per semester
- Receivable up to 8 semesters
FOUNDER鈥橲 SCHOLARSHIP AWARD (Unweighted GPA 3.00-3.49)
- $14,000 per year
- Based on academic Achievement (see scholarship calculator)
- Automatic renewal if student maintains a cumulative GPA 3.00 and enrolls in at least 12 hours per semester
- Receivable up to 8 semester
DEAN鈥橲 SCHOLARSHIP AWARD (Unweighted GPA 2.50-2.99)
- $12,000 per year
- Based on academic achievement (see scholarship calculator)
- Automatic renewal if student maintains a cumulative GPA of 2.50 and enrolls in at least 12 hours per semester
- Receivable up to 8 semesters
COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIP AWARD (Unweighted GPA 2.00-2.49)
- $10,000 per year
- Based on academic achievement (see scholarship calculator)
- Automatic renewal if student maintains a cumulative GPA of 2.00 and enrolls in at least 12 hours per semester
- Receivable up to 8 semesters

Performing Arts
In addition to being ranked the #1 College of Music in Alabama (Niche Rankings 2026), the Alabama School of the Arts offers a variety of funding opportunities to help students finance their education.
All students accepted into the Alabama School of the Arts are automatically considered for scholarships鈥攁warded up to $25,000 annually鈥攂ased on their admittance to the 涩里番, acceptance into ASOTA, and audition or interview.

Grants
Grants are need-based gift aid awarded to students who qualify. To determine eligibility for most of the following programs, students must file a聽聽(FAFSA) and have results sent to the 涩里番.
Alabama Student Grant Program
- Students who have been a resident of the state of Alabama for 12 months and are a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
- The average award in the last two years has been approximately $1,038 (full-time student) and $519.00 (part-time student). An application is required.
- This federal grant is administered by the Department of Education to undergraduate students demonstrating a high level of financial need.
- The amount of these grants varies and is determined by the Department of Education.
Outside Scholarships

If you are the recipient of an outside scholarship,聽you must notify the 涩里番 Financial Aid Office. The Financial Aid office is required by law to adjust federal aid if the addition of an outside scholarship results in an over-award situation. There are certain times when an outside scholarship may make you ineligible for the federal financial aid you were previously awarded. Your aid officer will notify you if a change is made in your aid offer.
Scholarship checks from outside sources should be made payable to the 涩里番 or 涩里番 and the student.聽Checks should be mailed to the following address or delivered to the:

Information needed from the outside scholarship organization. The following information should be included on or with the scholarship check:
- Student鈥檚 Full name
- Student鈥檚 university ID or social security number
- Name of the awarded scholarship
- Contact name and phone number of the scholarship coordinator
- Semesters of disbursement. Notation as to which academic term or terms the check should be applied to. If donor instructions are not provided, the university will assume the check is for the academic year. The scholarship check will be split between the fall and spring semesters.
- Notation as to whether the scholarship can be applied to any educational expenses or only certain educational expenses, for example tuition and fees only. If no notation is included, it will be assumed that the funds can be applied to any educational expense.

- 50% Tuition Scholarship for Dual Enrollment Teachers and their Dependents*: Teachers who are teaching dual enrollment courses, along with their dependents, receive a 50% University tuition scholarship*
- 50% Tuition Scholarship for Master鈥檚 Degrees*: The Schools鈥� teachers are eligible for a 50% tuition scholarship to pursue master鈥檚 degrees at the University*
- 50% Tuition Scholarship for First Bachelor鈥檚 Degrees*: Schools鈥� employees who wish to pursue their first bachelor鈥檚 degree and meet University admissions requirements qualify for a 50% tuition scholarship*
