Sister Mary Warner, SSND, has been nominated to receive the California Association of Teachers of English (CATE) Award for Classroom Excellence 2017. Each regional council in California can nominate one or two teachers at different grade levels to receive these awards. Sister Mary has been teaching English for nearly 40 years in middle and high school and in postsecondary. She is the director of the English Credential Program at San José State University and serves as co-director of the San Jose Area Writing Project.
Her special teaching interests include literature for young adults and the Bible as literature. She is co-author of Teaching Writing Grades 7–12 in an Era of Assessment - Passion and Practice.
The award will be presented on Feb. 17 during the CATE annual convention in Santa Clara.
