In Their Own Words: Students Speak At 2019 Closing Ceremony (Levels 1 & 2)

The School Sisters of Notre Dame Educational Center for Women wrapped up the 2019 academic year with a lovely closing ceremony at Monsignor Mulz Hall on Monday, June 3rd.

The School Sisters of Notre Dame have been offering tuition-free education classes for over a decade, and well over a thousand women have passed through their doors having either learned a new language or prepared for their high school equivalency.

At the end of each school year, the teachers, students and supporters gather to celebrate their ongoing achievements and the end of the school year. Nearly 75 students came together Monday to cap off the school year and speak about what the center has meant for them.

Here is what two of our students told the assembled gathering :

Jannat Akram – Level One

“Good morning everyone. I am Jannat Akram from Level One. I am from Pakistan. I like the center because I have made many friends. Our teacher Tehmina is nice and helpful. See you in September. Thank you.”

Mirella Murillo – Level Two

“Good morning teachers and students. I am Mirella Murillo. I represent Level Two. We thank this institution, especially our teacher. In this year we have learned to speak English with excellent teachers. We have also learned to pray in English with Sister Jean.
Thank you so much for everything Ms. Kathy Locher. For your patience, and day by day helping us to be better. God bless you.”

Stay tuned for more from our students – in their own words!
