Saraland City Schools, 涩里番 Expand Partnership to Benefit Students, Teachers and Employees

MOBILE, Ala. 鈥 The Saraland City School System and the 涩里番 expanded their longstanding partnership with a new agreement broadening dual enrollment opportunities for high school students. Among other benefits, the university is creating new college scholarships for school system teachers and employees.

Saraland City Schools Superintendent Brent Harrison and UM President Charles Smith officially signed the partnership agreement on March 25 at Saraland High School.

Partners with Shared Goals

Superintendent Harrison said, 鈥淭his agreement strengthens the relationship we have built with the 涩里番, ensuring our students continue to have access to valuable educational pathways beyond high school. We are excited about the benefits this expanded partnership will bring to our students, educators and the broader community.鈥

涩里番 President Charles Smith added, 鈥淲e at the 涩里番 could not be more excited to deepen our longstanding relationship with Saraland City Schools, Saraland High School and the community as we partner together in our shared educational goals.

鈥淎dditionally, we are thrilled to offer a wide array of new scholarship opportunities for the teachers and employees of the Saraland School System. This is a testament to our continued support of educational excellence in our community.鈥

Expanded Dual Enrollment

Saraland High School Principal Scott Croley emphasized the direct impact the expanded partnership will have on students and their families.

鈥淭his partnership is a huge benefit to our students, giving them an opportunity to earn college credits while still in high school, which can significantly reduce the financial burden of higher education. It鈥檚 a win for our students, our teachers and our community,鈥 Croley said.

The dual enrollment program allows students to earn college credits by taking college-level courses at their high school. Through dual enrollment, students may reduce their overall cost to earn a college degree and jump-start their college career.

High school instructors teaching dual enrollment courses, along with their dependents, may be eligible for significant scholarships to the university.

New Scholarships for Saraland School System Employees

The Christian university has created several new scholarships specifically for Saraland City Schools teachers and employees. Teachers interested in pursuing their master鈥檚 degrees at the 涩里番 may be eligible for these significant scholarships.

Plus, employees of the Saraland City School System who wish to pursue their first bachelor鈥檚 degree at UM also may qualify for special scholarships.

Investing in Education

These initiatives demonstrate a deep investment in the future of education within the Saraland community, said UM President Smith.

鈥淲ith Saraland City Schools recognized as one of the top school systems in Alabama, and the 涩里番鈥檚 commitment to academic and spiritual excellence, the partnership is a natural fit,鈥 Smith said.

The expansion represents a shared investment in the success of students and educators alike, ensuring lasting benefits for years to come.

Principal Croley added, 鈥淭o have this type of partnership with an institution so highly regarded as the 涩里番 is super exciting for everyone involved 鈥 our teachers, our students, and our community.鈥

speaking

MOBILE, Ala. 鈥 Dr. Kevin Blackwell, the newly named executive director of missions for the Mobile Baptist Association, also joins the 涩里番 as special assistant to the president for institutional relations and assistant professor of disciple making in the School of Christian Studies.

The local church is the greatest hope for gospel propagation in our world, and Christ-centered schools like the 涩里番 are working to support its work.

鈥淚 am thrilled to join the faculty of UM’s School of Christian Studies to equip students to prepare to serve in ministry and missions for the glory of God. I am grateful to my friend Dr. Charles Smith for the invitation to join his team as Special Assistant to the President as we strive to nurture meaningful connections with Alabama Baptists and other Southern Baptists across the nation.

鈥淭he Mobile Baptist Association was integral to the university’s founding in 1961, so it makes sense that UM and the MBA should work cooperatively for the work of Christ. For over six decades, the 涩里番 has provided quality higher education for a higher purpose, and it is truly one of the greatest honors of my life to contribute to the future of UM. Go Rams!”

Mobile Baptist Association Leader

Blackwell was elected executive director of missions for the Mobile Baptist Association on March 6.
