Top 10 Reasons You Should Go To College 鈥 (Even if Everyone鈥檚 Telling You Not To)

You鈥檝e probably heard all kinds of opinions about college 鈥 but here鈥檚 the thing: it鈥檚 still one of the best adventures you can take.

College isn鈥檛 just about lectures and late-night study sessions (though there鈥檚 plenty of that). It鈥檚 about discovering who you are, finding your people and preparing for the future God鈥檚 calling you to.

Whether you鈥檙e sure of your path or still figuring it out, here are 10 reasons why going to college 鈥 especially a place like the 涩里番 鈥 can truly change your life.

  1. College helps you figure out your calling. You鈥檙e not supposed to have it all figured out at 17. College gives you space to try things, meet people with different goals and discover what you actually want to do with your life.
  2. You鈥檒l make friends that feel like family. College is one of the best places to meet people who get you. At the 涩里番, we call it the 鈥淩am Family鈥 鈥 and it鈥檚 real. Lifelong friendships are built in dorm rooms, dining halls and late-night study sessions.
  3. You don鈥檛 have to sacrifice your faith. College doesn鈥檛 have to pull you away from your beliefs. At UM, your faith is actually encouraged. You鈥檒l grow spiritually while preparing for your career.
  4. You鈥檒l earn more in the long run. Stats don鈥檛 lie: on average, college grads earn way more than those without a degree. Yes, it鈥檚 an investment 鈥 but it pays off in future job options, salaries and stability.
  5. You get support, not just schoolwork. College isn鈥檛 just about lectures. It鈥檚 about mentors, coaches, professors who care and a whole team helping you succeed 鈥 academically, emotionally, spiritually and professionally.
  6. You鈥檒l grow up 鈥 in the best way. College teaches you how to live on your own without being totally on your own. You鈥檒l learn independence, responsibility and how to make it through challenges without giving up.
  7. Your career options open up big time. Let鈥檚 be real 鈥 having a degree makes a difference. Some jobs require it, and others give you a major advantage if you have one. Plus, at UM you won鈥檛 just learn from a textbook. You鈥檒l get hands-on experience that helps you stand out when you start your career.
  8. You鈥檒l learn stuff that actually makes you more interesting. Sure, college gets you ready for a job 鈥 but it also teaches you how to think. Classes like history, art, literature and philosophy help you understand the world, tell better stories, hold deeper conversations and see life from different angles. Trust us: it pays off way beyond the classroom.
  9. You鈥檒l do more than just study. College = fun, too. Whether it鈥檚 campus events, clubs, sports, worship nights or hanging out between classes, the college experience gives you stories and memories you鈥檒l talk about forever.
  10. You鈥檙e building a foundation for your future. What you learn and who you become in college impacts the rest of your life. You鈥檙e not just preparing for a job 鈥 you鈥檙e preparing to make a difference.

You鈥檝e got your whole life ahead of you. Don鈥檛 rush it. College 鈥 especially a place like the 涩里番 鈥 is where you will prepare to make an impact in the world and pursue God鈥檚 calling for your life.

At the 涩里番, we believe every career is a calling from God, whether it鈥檚 mathematics or ministry, business or health care, education or English. We equip you to use your gifts for the glory of God and the good of the world in a culture of caring, faith and academic excellence.

鈥淚 value the preparation for ministry and the friendships developed at Mobile College. Many of those relationships remain strong today. It鈥檚 a joy to now serve alongside Ricky Watt, who attended MC with me, as we work together through our networkof churches,鈥 he said.
